Project: Kampong G(e)lamorous
Kampong G(e)lamorous reimagines the colourful and vibrant world of Kampong Gelam through the eyes of the people of the past. Through a series of 4 AR-enhanced artworks by emerging local artists, we told a modern story inspired by the rich and bustling history of the precinct, merging past and present to build a forward-thinking future.
The works pose the questions: "What glamorous dreams would the communities living in Kampong Gelam in the past have had for its future? What ideals and ambitions would they have imagined, to better their lives and the lives of their generations to come?"
The project seeked to encourage viewers to rediscover Kampong Gelam’s heritage, re-engage with its current spaces, and remind each other that our lived experiences will always connect us — no matter how far we’ve come.
Our website provided bite-sized trivia content using elements from each artwork to educate viewers on the real-life stories of Kampong Gelam.
The exhibition was presented at 2 locations: Malay Heritage Centre (13 September – 3 October 2022) and Kandahar Street Park (4 October – 4 December 2022)
This project was produced with the support of the National Heritage Board’s DigiMuse programme.
